828 Jewels Will Make You Sparkle!

828 Jewels came to life in 2015 in the magical mountains of Asheville, North Carolina… area code 828. My beautiful sister Karin gave me a broken wood leaf earring and asked me to create something from it. That broken leaf sparked my imagination as I searched for ideas on YouTube. I wanted to create something you don’t see every day and that was safe to wear. I also wanted to work with nontraditional materials. This would allow me to keep my jewelry at an amazing price. After many trials and errors, I created my first autumn leaves collection using epoxy resin and mixed media. Today, epoxy and UV resin are my main mediums. I mix colors, sparkle and light to create unique eye-catching jewelry which is both lightweight and hypoallergenic.

After living in the south for the past 21 years my life’s journey has brought me back to Phelps, NY, my hometown, in June of 2021. This move brought with it the opportunity to take my jewelry business to the next level when I was accepted as a vendor at Windmill. Near the end of my first season, I decided I wanted to add some extra fun to my business. I found myself back on YouTube once again, but this time with a very specific skill in mind. I wanted to learn how to do fairy hair (aka tinsel, or sparkles). I had seen fairy hair done in Asheville and couldn’t help but notice that people lit up with excitement when they saw it. Already being well versed in the hair arena from cosmetology classes many moons ago, I knew this would be a perfect addition. After practicing for a few weeks, with the help from my wonderful momma who assists me at my shop I launched fairy hair sparkles. It has been a huge hit! I never imagined it would take off like it has! All my clients absolutely love it! I use what is called the single strand method, meaning I tie high quality fairy hair to a single strand of hair. This precision technique allows you to treat the fairy hair just like real hair. It can be washed, dried, colored, cut, curled, flat ironed and can withstand temperatures ranging from 375 to 410 degrees. The fact that it’s tied to one strand of hair will make it last as long as that one strand stays on your head. It could last for days, weeks, or even months. It all really depends on how quickly you shed. Many people have reported that after 6 to 8 months later they still had some strands left. It goes without saying they were very happy campers! 🤩
